The History of MEDMA
MEDMA was founded at the University of Michigan in the Fall of 2005 by Michael Zuzolo, Barry Shang, Eston Bond, Jeremy Linden, and Connie Hsaio. In just four years, we've grown from a group of five to more than seventy with a hundred plus more friends and fans who show up to our events every week.

With the last embers of Ann Arbor's early 2000s rave scene smoldering and electronic dance music's profitability in doubt by local college bars and dance clubs apt to attract the student masses with Top-40 and pop music, an EDM void was left on the campus of the University of Michigan. A few U-M students, locally unique in their love of electronic dance music, discovered that they were not alone on campus; that there were others scattered about who shared their passion. Thus was born the Michigan Electronic Dance Music Association.
MEDMA began wholly as an experiment. Who else and how many of us are out there? How much fun can we have? How big can we get? Can MEDMA succeed? How hard can we rock? It didn't take us long to find out. Within two semesters, the EDM lovers had been found, assimilated, and were giving MEDMA life. At the helm of MEDMA was Core, the most spirited and determined EDM visionaries on campus.
Since its inception, MEDMA has continued to grow yearly, drawing in more fresh enthusiastic students as awestruck with the organization as they were the first time they heard that EDM sound. MEDMA is increasingly noticed on campus and abroad in southeast Michigan by its parties, club nights, workshops, social events, and charitable event participation.
MEDMA's story is still unfolding, but we invite you to join us in shaping that story, helping us grow and have a good time. Whether you're a long-time electronic music aficionado or just trying to discover what this new sound is about, we welcome you with open arms and a 4/4 dance beat.
See you on the dance floor,
Mike Zuzolo
MEDMA co-founder and president, 2005-2007
